Story Submission Rules & Regulations

1. How to Enter: In order to be eligible for publication in an upcoming “GET THE GLOW” Series book, you must submit your own true story that relates to the specific topic. Entries must be fully original, no less than 550 words, no more than 1,500 words, written in English, typewritten and double-spaced, and must have never been published in a book format before (previous mentions in other print and electronic media are acceptable). For those who don’t like to write, submit a brief synopsis of the story, and indicate your preference to be interviewed instead. There is no limit to the number of entries per person or household. Entries can be submitted on the website: http://www.gettheglow.com/ or mailed to this address: Pop the Cork Publishing, 1629 McGilvra Blvd East, Seattle, WA 98112. Entries must be received by the stated deadline. All entries become the sole property of Pop the Cork Publishing and will not be acknowledged or returned. Pop the Cork Publishing reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entries that it deems inappropriate for any reason, including but not limited to entries containing references to drug or alcohol use, sexually explicit activity, or violation of laws. Entries must not violate the rights of any third parties, including copyrights, rights of privacy, or rights of publicity, and entries must not be defamatory, as determined in the sole discretion of the judges. In the event an insufficient number of entries are received, Pop the Cork Publishing reserves the right to cancel the Contest.

2. Eligibility: Parental consent required for entrants under the age of 18 at date of submission. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law.

3. Judging Criteria: All submissions must be a true story that is the fully original work of the entrant and the sole property of entrant. Please retain a copy of your submission. Stories will be evaluated by a panel of judges, on the equally weighted criteria of human interest, expression of thought, creativity, and originality. The decision of the judges will be final and binding in all respects. By entering, all entrants assign and transfer all rights, title, and interest in and to their respective submissions to Pop the Cork Publishing. By entering, all entrants agree to abide by these guidelines and grant Pop the Cork Publishing all rights to the entries to be used throughout the world in any and all media. Entrants agree that Pop the Cork Publishing has the right to copy, rewrite, revise, edit, publish, promote, broadcast, and otherwise use in whole or in part, in perpetuity, their entries in any manner without further permission, notice, or compensation.

4. Selection of Entries: Approximately one hundred entries will be selected based on the above-stated judging criteria, from among all eligible entries, to be published in a forthcoming book or books. Entries may also be selected for subsequent books of different title compiled by Sally Veillette. Selected Entrants will be awarded $50.00 payment in full; one Grand Prize winner will be awarded $1000.00, payable within sixty (60) days after publication date of the book. It is entrant’s responsibility to keep Pop the Cork Publishing informed of any address changes. Pop the Cork Publishing may disqualify a potential entry at any time during the selection process. Pop the Cork Publishing is under no obligation, and shall not be subject to any liability, in the event the book is not published and/or a particular entry is not included in the final book. By agreeing to have his/her entry (if selected) included in the book, each Selected Entrant grants to Pop the Cork Publishing the right to use his/her entry, name, and likeness for any advertising, promotional, trade, or any other purpose without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law. Only those short-listed for inclusion in the book will be notified by mail or email.

5. General: Each Selected Entrant will be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Release and Transfer of Rights, within 15 days of attempted notification or an alternate Selected Entrant may be selected. In the event any Selected Entrant is considered a minor in his/her state of residence, minor's parent/legal guardian will be required to sign and return all required documents, within the prescribed time period, or an alternate Selected Entrant will be selected. By entering this Contest, participants agree to be bound by these official rules and Pop the Cork Publishing’s decisions, which are final in all matters relating to this Contest. Pop the Cork Publishing and its employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, and advertising, promotion, legal advisers and any person or institution connected with publication are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, damaged, mutilated, or postage-due entries; (ii) any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind caused by or resulting from participation in this Contest; or (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with this Contest. Entrants further release Pop the Cork Publishing and any person or institution connected with publication from any liability for claims based on publicity rights, defamation, invasion of privacy, or the violation of any intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyright infringement. Any dispute arising from this Contest will be determined according to the laws of the State of Washington, without reference to its conflict of law principles, and the entrant's consent to the personal jurisdiction of the State and Federal Courts located in King County and agree that such courts have exclusive jurisdiction over all such disputes.

6. Internet: If for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned due to an infection by a computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Pop the Cork Publishing, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Pop the Cork Publishing reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the online portion of the Contest. Pop the Cork Publishing assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Pop the Cork Publishing is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or telephone lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email or entry to be received by Pop the Cork Publishing due to technical problems, human error, or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participating in this Contest or downloading any materials in this Contest. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, POP THE CORK PUBLISHING RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. In the event of a dispute as to the identity or eligibility of a Selected Entrant based on an email address, the winning entries will be declared made by the "Authorized Account Holder" of the email address submitted at time of entry. "Authorized Account Holder" is defined as the natural person 18 years of age or older who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, education institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Uses of automated devices are not valid for entry.
